vscode: Unable to drag tabs around

Type: Bug

For some inexplicable reason the future to move tabs around, left and right, down to terminal, split to compare in the text editor…

What I’ve tried

  1. Disabled all extensions, no change.
  2. Reset setting ´to defailt, no change.
  3. Reinsatlled VScode

The only thing that works until the bug gets triggerd again is to restart “Windows Explorer”

Another question: you say that dragging a tab to the terminal does not work to paste the path in. I assume this is the integrated terminal inside VS Code and not outside?

Did I say that? I admit that reading back what I wrote also makes my head spins haha. Anyway, no, when the bug is not triggered I can drag a tab anywhere, and yes I mean the integrated terminal. I also think I’ve installed a plugin to actually be able to “send” the path of the file (tab) to the integrated terminal or anywhere else actually. But don’t get hung up on that bc as you know I’ve already tried disabling all extensions and so on.

as for the “related part” yes, that is accurate, when the bug is triggered moving tabs around is impossible. All functionality is gone UNTIL I restart Windows Explorer. I think you should keep that in mind it has to be the key to solving this. What’s bounding around in my head is the most logical reason for this happening is VS Code locks file(s) it is not supposed to! and this lock gets released when Windows Explorer is restarted.

This part, I mention now hasn’t happened for a while. But at times it has been impossible to delete files in Windows Explorer then closing VS Code makes that possible again. When that first happened I started looking for settings in VS Code that will lock files for this and that reason. However, they are set at their defaults meaning it cannot work one time and not another if the settings don’t change meaning it is a bug …

Yes, I know, I’m impressed by my logic as well. If I wasn’t sick I would be the world’s best troubleshooter, it says so on my profile LOL.

It’s rare that I drag anything to the text editor as it’s faster to drag a tab down to let’s say the terminal to get the path. But at times when I’ve been tired and tried to drag from Windows Explorer to the Text Editor at times that hasn’t been possible and those times either was dragging tabs around in VS Code. Seems to me that it has to be the recent update to VC Code that’s causing this. In any case, I have to return when the bug is triggered so I have (hopefully) anything to give you about what has happened at that point in time., “I’ll be back”
