vscode: macOS Catalina 10.15.x not notarized - failed fresh install of 1.49
- VSCode Version: 1.49
- OS Version: macOS Catalina 10.15.6 (just updated, had issue with 10.15.x that was on my system just before)
Steps to Reproduce:
- Download 1.49 (latest at the time of this ticket). This was on a new laptop that never had VSCode installed previously.
- Open Archive
- Click to VSCode to run.
Also tried the ctrl-click to open which has worked in the past with other apps.
Insiders build had the same issue. After some digging I found in the release notes that it was notarized in version 1.43 (https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_43#_notarized-macos-builds). I downloaded that version and was able to launch it after the typical warning. Then I tried to install 1.49 (latest) and it did install. Is there something special that was released in 1.43 that got lost in later versions but would allow upgrades to succeed?
Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: n/a

I was actually able to fix my issue. My Mac OS was not saving my security settings. It seemed like they saved, but I would open the preferences back up and they were set to App Store only.
I updated my OS, which also restarted my laptop. Went to my security settings. My security settings has reset again. I set them appropriately and locked them. Closed the window and re-opened it. The setting stayed this time.
I was able to successfully install any VS code version.
I wonder if other users have a similar experience.
