Hey @b4b4r07, around a month ago I registered this domain to stop someone else doing it.
https://zplug.sh/
I went into more detail in the zplug slack, but it seems as though that is no longer in use…
The way I see it there’s a few ways this can go:
I transfer the domain back to you. (this will likely involve you having to pay for an extra year with whatever registrar you choose)
I maintain control of the domain and serve something like https://github.com/zplug/zplug.github.io on it. (this is not very safe, as it assumes I am trustworthy and won’t maliciously modify the installation command)
The zplug project stops using the
zplug.shdomain entirely, as it is a needless monetary burden on the project maintainers. Here, you stop linking to it all over the github org and use github pages for the promotional website and github raw / releases for the installercurl, and we call it a day. This is also relevant to: https://github.com/zplug/zplug/issues/434 and https://github.com/zplug/installer/issues/8
plug.shis €26.43/year on namecheap.com, I can’t imagine thatzplug.shcould be any more expensive.If
zplug.shis too far gone in the expiry process you would always registerplug.shand usez.plug.shas your CNAME / redirect.@b4b4r07, I’m happy to donate €30 this year to kick this problem further down the road. At the moment the repo’s url still links to the dead zplug.sh site.
Which means anyone can purchase this domain and backdoor the installer. This should be a high priority issue!
@rudolfs This project hasn’t received a commit since July 2018. I’d say that it is clearly no longer being actively developed - whether or not you call that ‘dead’ is up to you. Functionally, it should still work for those who want to keep using it.
The commit you linked to is removing the usage of
zplugfrom some files, but as you can clearly see, @b4b4r07 is still usingzplug. Is there any donation link (paypal link or bitcoin wallet, etc) for the zplug?
I think it would be sad to lose the domain. I get enough value from zplug that I’d gladly help support it’s continuation. If you no longer want to hold on to it @22a maybe I could take it over for now unless or until @b4b4r07 wants to. The cost of $32.88/yr. is no big deal for me personally.
@22a Hi, thank you for your nice work 😂 I really appreciate it.
I’d like to choose
1because I’d like to provide zplug.sh to every developers again. If you are able to back to me, I’m so happy.I have a plan for a new ecosystem using zplug.sh.
Last time I lost this domain, I was still a student. It is a fact that there was a monetary burden. However, as time passed, I became a software engineer. Now I can operate without losing it!
@eproxus That’s certainly valid, or we could use the github.io site instead. Either way, the documentation would need to be updated though.
That’s never been a factor at any registrar I’ve used in the past 10 years.
Maybe with crowdfunding? Looks like it costs $80 a year, I’ll bet you can raise that with donations.
hi, all. I’m sorry I had end up expiring the domain. However,
*.shdomain is so expensive. Tentatively, I am planning to revive it but I have to do something about it.
