UTM: Network broken in Ubuntu
Describe the issue At some point when upgrading the version of UTM networking stopped working in my Ubuntu VM. I think that I went from 2.0.22 to 2.0.28. I then tried upgrading to the 2.1.0 beta but that didn’t fix it. I didn’t have time to investigate further at that time.
Today I upgraded to UTM 2.1.1 and my previous Ubuntu installation was still unable to reach the network. I tried multiple ip set enp0s6 up, dhclient enp0s6, and smilar commands but couldn’t get it working.
I then created a new fresh VM and installed Ubuntu 20.04.2 via these instructions from the gallery. Internet access worked during the installer and upon first boot.
I then shut down the VM and added a port forward (22 -> 2222). When booting the VM the network was now broken. Removing the port forward and booting again did not fix the issue. I’m unable to get networking working at this point…
Any help much appreciated!

@kkors Can you please check your network interfaces in /etc/netplan ? You might need to add the ethernet interface manually with netplan. Here’s how.
I have several VM’s, both Debian and Ubuntu, that I created when I was using UTM v2.1.2. I recently upgraded to UTM 2.2.4. I have observed that the network works on them until the moment I go into UTM to change a setting. For example, I wanted to resize a disk, so I added the disk as a second drive to a VM that had internet access. After adding the drive, I lose internet access. I am currently using UTM 2.2.4. In the case of the original poster, he says he was using a fresh Ubuntu VM with working networking, then went into the settings to enable port forwarding, which broke networking.
I am not sure what information to provide to help get this issue resolved. But please do let me know. Thank you.
pingis not supported due to SLIRP networking used in UTM. https://github.com/utmapp/UTM/issues/530#issuecomment-725790766Please try my above suggestion to check if the internet connection is working.
