toolkit-for-ynab: [BUG] Error message completely locks up my YNAB!

Describe the bug I get the UH OH An error occurred in Toolkit… message popup, and the only options are to report the issue on this repo or to refresh the page, which simply re-loads the error message (even after clearing browsing data)

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Log in to YNAB

Expected behavior I did not expect a 3rd party toolkit to be able to lock me out of my budget. This is unacceptable.

Screenshots

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: MacOS 13.4.1
  • Browser Chrome: 115.0.5790.114
  • Toolkit Version: can’t tell because I’m locked out

Setting Export Please replace the text ‘REPLACE_ME_WITH_SETTINGS’ below with your exported Toolkit settings. You can export these by going to the Toolkit Options page, click the Import/Export Settings button at the top right and copying the text in the modal which appears.

Note! DO NOT replace the leading and trailing ``` characters as they are required formatting characters.

I can't tell because I'm completely locked out by the toolkit error message!

Well, I would try that if I wasn’t *completely locked out. *

You aren’t, relax. Disable the toolkit if you need to access your budget. You can also modify toolkit settings from the extension which is separate from your YNAB budget page.

You are using an unofficial browser extension, there is no reason you should expect 100% compatibility at all times.

Agreed with nbar1 - it appears ToolKit is a labour of love by the devs, that surely requires much sweat and late nights breakfixing that they do unpaid. So - prolly should relax? Be grateful? I sure am, as I use it every day.

I’ve released 3.7.3 which should hopefully fix the issues. It’s been approved and released by Firefox and is awaiting approval from Chrome.

Step 1. Disable the toolkit – Step 2. refresh the YNAB page or restart your computer Step 3. You should be able to access YNAB after getting back to it Step 4. Disable the settings in the toolkit that are causing the problem: Total Monthly Goals, and Days of Buffering, and Display Target goal amount, possibly progress bars (but YNAB has those native now) Step 5. Enable toolkit and see if you get any other errors. If you have additional settings, it’s just playing whack a mole. I found those ones because I looked at the errors thrown in the console.

Try this workaround: So Disable: Total Monthly Goals, and Days of Buffering, and Display Target goal amount — I knew it, YNAB is locking down the accounts part so the toolkit can’t scrape the page s for it

the reports are not functioning but the button should still be there.

Given that YNAB hasn’t released a single new feature that I find helpful in the past 12 months, but have broken the immensely useful toolkit repeatedly, I have to question what their Product Manager is thinking.

Ah; I found it here. Thanks.

@epistemetrica https://github.com/epistemetrica I’m sorry, I kind of thought that was your problem. Yes, just disable the toolkit by clicking on the (plus sign) extension in your browser or going to the settings and toggling it off. It will turn red if it’s off, but you should still be able to click “open settings” and manage your settings. That’s what was meant by you can still access the settings with it off.

Disabled ToolKit, refreshed and YNAB works now. Thanks.

This worked. Thanks. No ToolKit reports for now 😦
