textext: texttext hangs before any ouput is produced

Description of the problem/ steps to reproduce

When I press Save or Preview with any input, textext hangs and never produces any output, even messages. inkscape itself is also blocked. From here I can only kill textext to return to inkscape.

textext worked perfectly fine for me until recently when this issue appeared, so it must have been caused by a recent update in inkscape. If it’s of any help I can try to downgrade both inkscape and textext to see if the issue disappears.

From the log file it’s clear that it hangs on the call ixc.inkscape from TexToPdfConverter.pdf_to_svg.

Message(s) in error dialog (if this comes up) textext (and inkscape together with it) hangs before messages are shown.

Ah, and one final test please with the 1.3.x nightly: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/jobs/artifacts/1.3.x/download?job=appimage%3Alinux

(Please also post the version string)

Also works with this version (Inkscape 1.3 (4f532fb, 2023-09-22))

@VasilySotnikov Could you do the Inkscape developers a favour and try to import a pdf file using the latest AppImage of Inkscape? And also do the command line conversion test?

You can download it here: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-dev/gnulinux/appimage/dl/

Does it work with the nightly build (Note: TexText will not work using an AppImage if not configured properly).

Please give feedback here so we can decide of we open a separate issue on their issue tracker,

I downloaded the image Inkscape 1.4-dev (afe3546, 2023-10-20), and pdf import does work. Both as a command for step 5 and through the GUI. Thanks a lot communicating the issue to inkscape developers!

@VasilySotnikov, @tommy-engels Could you try the following fix, please? Just install it as you did with your original installation of TexText. Does it work now?

TexText-Linux-1.9.1-dev.zip

This doesn’t fix the problem unfortunately.

Thanks a lot for your help with this!
