Steps to reproduce

Upgrade from Storybook 3.3.3 (Update: 3.3.4 is fine) 3.3.4 to 3.3.5

I am not sure why it happens. The upgrade alone shows the problem, no other code changes needed. I dug around a bit for references to public/index.html, but can’t find an obvious one. Will update the issue once I know more.

Please specify which version of Storybook and optionally any affected addons that you’re running

@joscha yeah, the strict requirement of preservig the default plugins in full control mode appeared in 3.3, since we’ve added HTML plugins in https://github.com/storybooks/storybook/pull/1775

It’s kinda breaking change in minor release. We have a few of them, and that’s definitely not cool. We’ve revisited our release strategy since then, and I hope it will allow us to follow semver more strictly.

For the record: We had the same problem after updating from v3.2.x to v3.3.6 and it was because we tempered the publicPath of the storybook Webpack config in full control mode as such: storybookBaseConfig.output.publicPath = '/storybook/';

Removing that line made the storybook work again.

Same for me, I have no error as long as I don’t send any request to storybook server. btw, node_modules/@storybook/react/dist/server/public/ only contains favicon.ico for me.

I am not sure why it happens, but I think I found out when it happens (kudos to @gustavohenke). A HEAD request against storybook makes the messages appear. You can try via:

curl --head http://localhost:6006

(6006 is our storybook port)

I have the same issue updating from 3.2.13 to v3.3.6:

Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, stat '[my project path]/node_modules/@storybook/react/dist/server/public/index.html'

I use full control webpack config but I checked and output is left untouched from storybookConf.

Have you tried nuking node_modules and reinstalling?

yes, I am doing rm -rf node_modules && rm yarn.lock && yarn for all of the above every time.
