AutoGPT: 'The JSON object is invalid' Every task results in a 'do_nothing' command

GPT-3 or GPT-4

  • I am using Auto-GPT with GPT-3 (GPT-3.5)

Steps to reproduce 🕹

I’ve added the file_operations.py file that seemed to work for others on this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoGPT/comments/12j70go/saving_files/

I am trying to have autogpt use information found online related to my original prompt to create and add data to an excel file.

It is doing a fine job finding the relevant information, but cannot create or save a file.

Current behavior 😯

every next action gives a ‘do_nothing’ so it is doing nothing.

Expected behavior 🤔

I am trying to get autogpt to create an excel file, use information from a folder on my desktop and the internet to complete my objective.

In this case, it is to create a business proposal for a liquor store (job I did on upwork a while back - trying to replicate with autogpt)

IF ANYONE CAN HELP I WOULD APPRECIATE A TON

For my installation, the root issue was apparently that the chrome browser wasn’t available. I came to this conclusion based upon this log snippet:

Adding chrome (which appears to be the default browser used by AutoGPT) solved my problem. I would suspect that you can also modify the browser used by AutoGPT, but I haven’t invested any effort in confirming that.

So, for Windows Server, I would suggest installing the Chrome browser, then ensuring that it is added to the path (I don’t believe that it is by default on windows)

  1. Select the “Start” button
  2. Search for “Edit the system environment variables.”
  3. Choose the “Advanced” tab
  4. Click the “Environment Variables” button
  5. Select the “Path” variable under “User variables”
  6. Click the “Edit” button
  7. Press the “New” button
  8. Type the full directory path to where the chrome.exe executable is located, e.g.: C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application
  9. Select the “Ok” button on the open dialogs to save the settings
  10. Open a new PowerShell and try AutoGPT again (need a new one to ensure that the updated path environment is set)

I hope this helps.

same problem here:

  • running with docker
  • stable version of today
  • added only the openAI API key in the env file
  • prompt `

I want Auto-GPT to: create a nodejs + typescript + express microservice that manages user registration and login process

`

I have this problem as well. I am using the stable version available today.

Dear all,

I started using AutoGpt today (I am a total noob in this field, please apologize). I have the exact same issue (The JSON object is invalid). Installation of everything was performed this morning. If I can help, let me know.

Update : I am using chatgpt 3.5.

Regards

I’m having this issue as well using today’s stable branch: image
