An abandoned hotel in my town is rendered normally with no indication that it is abandoned. It is tagged with tourism=hotel and abandoned=yes

Alternatively, abandoned/disused objects could be shown with their normal icon plus an overlay crossing them out / striking them through.

We need to think about how to properly (and easily) mark abandoned and disused objects. One idea is to format the type as “Abandoned hotel” or “disused railway station”.

This is a just purely bad mapping and a clear case of trolltag.

I would treat it as OSM data error - Organic Maps has enough problems with well formed OSM data, I would not advise to put effort into supporting badly mapped POIs (though note that I am not a real contributor to OM).

Supporting such completely broken data can even encourage mapping more of such things.

Yeap the buildings should stay, but all POIs removed.

Actually not all: abandoned monuments, castles, towers etc should be still shown. This effort is really better spend on supporting good tagging.

Still there are 100k of disused=yes cases and we need to process it somehow.

It’s important to distinguish two cases as disused=yes is not always wrong. It depends on the context whether it is a troll tag or not. A building that is not used any more is still a building, so it can, and should be tagged with building=yes + disused=yes. A supermarket that closed is not a supermarket any more, so shop should be replaced with disused:shop. In the second case disused=yes should not be used.

So just that there are 100k disused=yes tags doesn’t mean that there are 100k errors in OSM

@pastk Make sense to add building = abandoned/disused (disused:building, abandoned:building) and draw the respectively (more faint grey?)
