vscode-jupyter: vscode continues to crash, extension reload

I try to run some piece of code in interactive mode (with # %% in the top line) - the code starts and executes but then the kernal crashes. Sometimes, after several trials, vscode remains up and works fine. However, I just did a complete clean reinstall of VSCode and it continued to crash again several times before now running ok. Once it runs no problems. Below the output from ‘window’. I lost already several working days trying to hunt down the error, so any help very much appreciated.
