I think it is a regrettable loss.

@frenck Looking at this from the opposite point of view…

There are clearly users (me included) who valued the ‘Stop’ button and miss having it there. It served a purpose, to cleanly end the HA process via the UI. There are other ways to do this, but none that are as simple. It’s reasonable to expect users of Core to create mechanisms to do this, but it doesn’t seem reasonable to take this viewpoint where the project previously supplied a perfectly useable (and likeable) option. Like @chilicheech I now use the service.

What benefit does removing the button have to the project or users?

How about the use case where Home Assistant has to be stopped to create a backup that includes the database?

9 times out of 10 corruption of the database occurs if this is not done.

Ok, so I managed to get around the missing button by using the homeassistant.stop service. Please tell me that service is not going away…

In that case, your service isn’t handling it correctly and kills the process instead of waiting for it. As this is your own custom service, this is not a Home Assistant issue.

I run home assistant docker and often times when I restart home assistant I get random errors when it comes back up. I am running home assistant with docker compose with a restart policy of always. So, by stopping home assistant I would effectively restart the container, not just home assistant, and things came back cleanly with no errors. I would very much like to get that button back, even if, as previously suggested, it only appeared in advanced mode.

Cheers,

It allows me to do a clean core shutdown without having to use CLI before I do a reboot

A reboot, does a clean shutdown.

I want to be able to shutdown HA properly when I have a power outage and don’t think my UPS can last long enough before the power comes back up.

I think you, in that case, didn’t understand what the button did. It stopped Home Assistant process, it did NOT shutdown the device. Use the shutdown button in the Supervisor system panel instead in that case (which is still there and the one your are looking for).
