runtime: Reflection not working in existing project

Describe the bug

After upgrading my project from .Net 6 Preview 6 to .Net 6 Preview 7, a shared component that uses reflection no longer works. The offending code is unchanged and has worked through all preview versions of .Net 6.

To make matters worse, the offending code works on my local machine using the SDK, but fails on our development server which has .Net 6 Preview 7 hosting bundle installed.

The error message is less than helpful, referring to generic type ‘<>A{00000004}`3’:

@Tratcher Thanks for the links! I’m not directly using those features and can’t speak for the internals of EnumsNET, but it’s certainly possible.

In my situation, I’m seeing the behavior from my main app but not a small reproduction repo. And my problem is not likely the exact same as James’s, as I’ve seen this behavior the last few previews at least.

In my case I’m holding off deploying it even though I found a hacky workaround to accomplish my goal. Hopefully this’ll be sorted out by the time .NET 6 goes gold.

@JamesHill3 You should be able to force your project to use an earlier preview by including a global.json file in your root folder with the following:

    }
}

Or include whatever other SDK version you see from dotnet --list-sdks that you want to use. Versions can safely live alongside each other with that file present.

For example, here’s my file and you can see that when I ask what version of dotnet I have it shows the one I’ve indicated in global.json.

Without global.json dotnet will always try and use the latest version installed.
